Rug Care
Looking after your hand-tufted wool rug.
Each rug at Sisa Studio is hand-tufted in limited batches using 100% New Zealand wool — a premium, natural fibre known for its softness, strength, and durability. With a little TLC, your artist-designed rug will look beautiful in your home for years to come.
Some tips:
~ Vacuum weekly with only the suction or with a soft brush attachment— avoid beater brushes, which can damage the wool pile.
~ Gently shake out your rug occasionally to remove dust and debris.
~ Try to rotate your rug every few months to promote even wear and prevent fading from sunlight.
~ Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel — avoid rubbing, which can push stains deeper into the wool. Then use a damp cloth with a mild detergent for spot cleaning.
~ Your rug may shed lightly at first. This is completely normal behaviour for wool, and will reduce over time with regular vacuuming.
Things to avoid doing to your rug:
~ No steam cleaning, dry cleaning, or machine washing.
~ Avoid soaking the rug or using excessive water— the cotton backing can warp if exposed to too much moisture.
~ Avoid harsh chemicals or bleach-based cleaners.
~ Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
~ If you notice a loose thread, don’t pull it — trim it carefully with scissors.
Been awhile?
After 18-24 months of regular use, we’d recommend getting your rug professionally cleaned.
